Dwight Howard said the left quad contusion that forced him out of Tuesday’s game is “really painful” and that he doesn’t yet know if he will be able to play against the Bucks on Wednesday.

The Hawks center said he will get continued treatment before the game before a decision is made on his status.

Howard suffered the injury when he got hit by the knee of Heat center Hassan Whiteside late in the third quarter of the 93-90 Hawks’ win. He went back to the locker room after leaving the game with 3:50 left in the period to get treatment for swelling.

“It swelled up pretty bad,” Howard told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution after the game. “We are trying to make sure it doesn’t swell up anymore. I tried to come in the back and get as much ice on it as I could so it won’t swell. Some of the swelling did go down.

“It’s super tight right now. Really painful. I wanted to come back out there but they said it wasn’t worth it this early in the season. There is a lot of pain. We are going to get treatment tonight, get treatment in the morning and see how it feels.”

Howard even got treatment while other Hawks players showered and dressed after the game. He was the last to leave the locker room.

Howard had his eighth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds before exiting.
