• With Joe Johnson missing his second consecutive game, the Hawks started a backcourt of Jeff Teague and Kirk Hinrich on Thursday night against the Magic. Hinrich made his first start of this season after returning from shoulder surgery.

“From a matchup standpoint, we like the matchups,” Hawks coach Larry Drew said. “We play a little faster. [We want to] see how both Jeff and Kirk play with one another. We’ve been wanting to experiment with that anyway. They’ve been out on the floor before, so we will put them out there as starters and see if they can generate anything.”

It was the eighth different starting lineup used this season.

  • Drew said there was no further update on Johnson's ailing left knee. Tendinitis will cause the guard to miss this weekend's All-Star activities. Johnson will be re-evaluated following the break.
  • The Rev. Joseph Lowery was honored following the first quarter as part of the Hawks' Black History Month Trailblazer series.
