The Hawks assigned rookie forward Mike Scott to their NBA Development League affiliate in Bakersfield (Calif.) Friday.

Scott will have an opportunity to play at least three games. The Jam play in Los Angeles Saturday, where the Hawks will spend an off day, and then play home games Sunday and Tuesday. Hawks coach Larry Drew said some of the coaching staff will watch Scott play in Los Angeles.

Drew said Scott could re-join the team after Tuesday.

“The timing is perfect,” Drew said. “He can get some playing time, get some run.”

It is the second stint in the D-League for Scott. He appeared in four games in December and averaged 13.3 points and 6.0 rebounds in 29 minutes.

Scott, the team’s second-round draft pick, has appeared in 25 games and averaged 3.0 points and 2.1 rebounds in 7.5 minutes.
