The Hawks picked up the fourth-year options on Taurean Prince and DeAndre Bembry for 2019-20 on Monday.
The move to pick up Prince’s option was a foregone conclusion. The small forward, the No. 12 overall pick in 2016, has worked his way into the starting lineup. He averaged 14.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists last season. He has appeared in 141 career games, including 92 starts. Prince will earn $3.5 million for the option year.
The move to pick up Bembry’s option is a chance for the guard/forward to unlock his potential. Bembry, the No. 21 overall pick in 2016, has been injured for much of his two seasons. He has averaged 3.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 64 career games. He appeared in 38 games as a rookie and 26 games last season. He was also slowed this offseason due to injury. Bembry will earn $2.6 million for the option year.
The Hawks also picked up a third-year option on John Collins for 2019-20. The second-year power forward, the No. 19 overall pick last year, has worked his way into the starting lineup, although he will miss at least the first three games of this season due to an ankle injury. Collins, who was All-Rookie second team, averaged 10.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 73 games last season. Collins will earn $2.7 million for the option year.
