The Hawks have officially notified the NBA and the Nets of their intention to swap first-round picks in the 2015 Draft.
The Hawks had the right to swap first-round selections as one of several parts of the Joe Johnson trade in 2012. The Hawks will now have the No. 15 overall pick and the Nets have the No. 29 overall pick.
The Hawks had to declare their intentions in writing to the league, which they did so Monday.
In the trade for Johnson, the Hawks had the right to swap first-round picks, non-lottery protected, for three seasons. The Hawks also own the Nets’ second-round pick in 2017 as part of the trade. The Hawks sent Johnson to the Nets in a sign-and-trade that included players Jordan Farmer, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow, Jordan Williams and DeShawn Stevenson.
The Hawks also have two second-round picks in this year’s draft, Nos. 50 and 59.
Members of the Hawks basketball operations and scouting staffs will head to Chicago for the NBA Draft Combine later this week.
