Hawks 117, Hornets 114 OT

How the game was won: Elton Brand scored four points, his only two baskets before fouling out, and Thabo Sefolosha hit three free throws in overtime as the Hawks defeated the Hornets Monday night in an exhibition game at Philips Arena. The Hawks outscored the Hornets 13-10 in the extra period.

Paul Millsap, coming off a miserable game Saturday, finished with 21 points for the Hawks (3-3). They also got double-figure scoring from Kyle Korver (17), Mike Scott (16), Sefolosha (12), Dennis Schroder (12) and Al Horford (10).

Gary Neal led the Hornets with 21 points.

Turning point: With the Hawks holding a four-point lead, 101-97, Korver was called for a flagrant foul on Bismark Biyombo. The center made the two free throws and Neal followed with a jumper on the ensuing possession to tie the game with 1:56 left. The Hornets took a brief lead on another Neal basket. The Hawks finished regulation on a 3-1 run to set up overtime at 104-104 when Cody Zeller missed the second of two free throws with 15.1 seconds left for the Hornets and DeMarre Carroll missed at the buzzer for the Hawks.

Number: 17 - The third-quarter lead the Hawks could not hold. The Hawks started the period with the advantage but the Hornets completely erased it with 1:02 left in the period.

Next: The Hawks end their exhibition schedule Wednesday at the Spurs. The regular-season opener is Oct. 29 at the Raptors.
