Josh Smith (knee) did not practice Monday as the Hawks returned to work.
Smith was one of several players to miss Saturday’s game against the Spurs along with Al Horford, Kyle Korver, Devin Harris and DeShawn Stevenson. The Hawks had eight healthy players in the two-point loss to the Spurs.
Horford (hamstring), Korver (undisclosed), Harris (toe) and Stevenson (back-to-back game) all participated in Monday’s non-contact practice.
Johan Petro did not practice. He left the team Sunday to be with his wife, who is expecting the birth of their child.
“We held (Smith) out to get treatment on his knee,” coach Larry Drew said. “Just extra precautionary reasons.”
Drew said he is “hoping” that all his players will be available for Wednesday’s game against the 76ers.
Horford's a fan: Of interest during the workout was Horford views on the NCAA men's basketball championship, which featured Michigan and his brother Jon. The final coincidentally was in the Georgia Dome, where Horford won a national championship of his own with Florida.
“I’m every excited, a little nervous, but just happy for him,” Horford said. “This is special for our family. We’ve made the most of this week with the Final Four. We are happy (Michigan) is in the final.”
Horford said he avoids talking basketball with his brother although he sends a text message before each game with a tip or something to work on.
“I don’t get nervous when I play,” Horford said. “I know I can control the things I do. When I’m watching a team I’m rooting for and I can’t do anything, I get nervous, especially with him there. I’m not telling him this but I’m anxious.”
Horford intended to attend the game with a number of family members who have been in town this week.
