Hawks’ Collins to be part of USA Select Team

Hawks power forward John Collins will be part of the Select Team that will help prepare Team USA for the FIBA World Cup this summer, according to a person familiar with the situation. The rosters for Team USA, made up of high-profile NBA stars, and the Select Team have not been announced. No other Hawks player will be part of either team, according to the person familiar with the rosters.

ESPN first reported that Collins will be among the Select players.

Team USA will hold a training camp in Las Vegas Aug. 5-8 as it prepares for World Cup that will be held in China. The Select Team will be made up of 10 players who will compete alongside the 18-man Team USA training camp roster, which will eventually be cut to 12 players to be coached by the Spurs’ Gregg Popovich.

According to several media outlets, among those invited to the Team USA training camp are Anthony Davis, James Harden, Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollum, Bradley Beal, Kevin Love, Eric Gordon, Jayson Tatum, Donovan Mitchell, Brook Lopez, Kyle Kuzma, LaMarcus Aldridge, Andre Drummond, Khris Middleton, P.J. Tucker and Kemba Walker. ESPN also reported that the Kings’ Marvin Bagley will be part of the Select Team.

The World Cup will be played China from Aug. 21 to Sept. 15.
