The Hawks plan to sign Lamar Patterson to a 10-day contract, according to a person familiar with the situation.
Patterson, a former Hawk, was playing in the NBA Development League for the Reno Bighorns, the affiliate of the Kings. He was averaging 23.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 35.4 minutes of 27 games this season before Friday. He scored 41 points for the Reno in a win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce Wednesday.
Patterson played for Reno against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers Friday before the deal. He finished with scored 39 points.
Patterson drew interest from two other teams in addition to the Hawks, according to a person familar with the situation.
The Hawks had an open roster spot after the 10-day contract of Gary Neal expired Friday.
The Hawks acquired Patterson in the 2014 NBA Draft after he was selected by the Bucks in the second round (No. 48 overall) out of the University of Pittsburgh. He spent a season playing in Turkey before joining the Hawks in 2015. He played 35 games for the Hawks and averaged 2.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 11.3 minutes.
The Hawks waived Patterson in the summer of 2016 and he was claimed by the Kings.
