Darvin Ham is staying.

The Hawks assistant coach will remain in Atlanta as part of Mike Budenholzer’s staff next season. Ham reportedly had been a candidate to join newly hired Quin Snyder on the staff of the Jazz, possibly as an associate head coach. Snyder left the Hawks after one season for the head position with the Jazz earlier this month.

“I love Quin and he’s going to do an awesome job without a doubt,” Ham told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Thursday. “But I also love this program we are continuing to build here in Atlanta and I want to see it through.”

Ham will coach the Hawks entry in the Las Vegas Summer League next month. It will be his second season with the Hawks after two seasons with the Lakers and a stint as a head coach and assistant with the New Mexico Thunderbirds of the NBA Development League.

The Hawks are in the preliminary process of gathering a list of candidates to replace Snyder.
