Darvin Ham will coach the Hawks in the Las Vegas Summer League next month.

General manager Danny Ferry told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Saturday that the plan is for the assistant coach to assume the duties. Quin Snyder coached the Hawks’ summer league team last year. He was hired as head coach of the Jazz Friday.

Ham was an assistant coach with the Hawks last season under first-year coach Mike Budenholzer working with the team’s big men. He spent the previous two seasons as an assistant with the Lakers.

Ham participated in the recently completed Basketball Without Borders Europe in Rome. He continued to work with Al Horford, who also represented the NBA at the camp, on his rehabilitation from a torn right pectoral muscle.

The Las Vegas Summer League runs from July 11-21. The Hawks will play at least five games. Last year’s draft class of Lucas Nogueira, Dennis Schroder and Mike Muscala along with John Jenkins, returning from back surgery, are expected to participate. The Hawks are scheduled to make two picks in the NBA Draft on June 26.
