It took six games for the injury bug to bite the Hawks starting lineup.

DeMarre Carroll has been ruled out of tonight’s game against the Jazz with a groin strain. The starting small forward was injured late in Monday’s win over the Knicks. He said the injury occurred with about five minutes left in the game.

“It was one of those plays,” Carroll said. “I know who did it and what they did. I really don’t want to elaborate on it. I’m just trying to get better.”

Thabo Sefolosha will start in place of Carroll.

Carroll said rest in the main treatment for the injury and he hoped to be back soon. Through six games, Carroll has averaged 12.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals in 33.8 minutes.

Mike Scott has also been ruled out tonight with a lower back contusion. Scott was injured by a fall after being fouled by Amare Stoudemire Monday.

“I’m feeling better today, better than yesterday,” Scott said. “The back is still a little bit sore. We are just being cautious.”

Scott popped up immediately after the fall. The reserve forward said the treatment is ice, heat and massage. He has appeared in all six games and has averaged 9.7 points and 2.5 rebounds in 14.7 minutes.

“It stung a little bit when I first got up,” Scott said. “The adrenaline kept me going. I really started to feel it toward the end of the game.”

With Carroll and Scott out, John Jenkins and Adreian Payne will be active for the first game this season. Jenkins has been healthy all season. Payne missed the past five games with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
