Braves catcher Anthony Recker is expected to miss two or three games while he’s with his wife in Arizona following the birth of the couple’s second child.

Recker worked frenetically to get to Arizona after Monday night’s game.

“She was in active labor when the game was over,” Braves interim manager Brian Snitker said. “I don’t know if he was going to make it there for the actual birth.”

With rosters expanded in September, the Braves already had a third catcher, Blake Lalli, on the active roster. Lalli was brought up from Triple-A after veteran catcher A.J. Pierzynski was placed on the disabled list Sunday for the second time in a month with a strained hamstring.

Lalli hasn’t started a game yet and Recker is expected to be rejoin the team by Friday, Snitker said.
