Diamondbacks

Arizona had five Venezuelans in the lineup last week, a franchise record and tied for most in the majors since 1998. It was the first time in the NL that a team started three Venezuelans in the outfield. … A.J. Pollock had surgery on his fractured right hand and will be out five to eight weeks. … OF Mark Trumbo, acquired from the Angels in the offseason, has been sidelined since April 22 with a stress fracture in his left foot. He isn’t expected back for at least another two weeks.

Dodgers

For the second consecutive year, the Dodgers were 7½ games out of first place after the first game of June. It all worked out just fine last year, of course. “You don’t want to sit here and accept anything,” manager Don Mattingly told the Los Angeles Times. “You don’t want to panic. You want your team to play with a sense of urgency.” Mattingly said he sees that urgency in his team. “I’m not in a panic,” he said. “I would be in a panic if I didn’t feel we had any sense of urgency.” … Tuesday marked the anniversary of Yasiel Puig’s major league debut. He is one of five players with at least 190 hits and 30 homers within one year of their first big league game, along with Chuck Klein, Hal Trosky, Albert Pujols and Ryan Braun.

Giants

Tim Hudson threw seven shutout innings last week vs. the Cardinals. Hudson (6-2) gave up three hits, struck out six, and walked two in improving to 4-4 against St. Louis. Hudson’s previous win against the Cardinals came on July 19, 2007, as a member of the Braves. He retired the last 11 batters he faced. … The Giants finished May with an NL-best 19-9 record. … Last week the Reds hung eight earned runs on Tim Lincecum (4-5), who flirted with disaster for much of May but escaped with a 2.86 ERA in six starts. Lincecum has allowed eight earned runs in just two of his 232 career starts. The other one was last July 22, also against the Reds, according to the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News.

Padres

Andrew Cashner threw a four-inning simulated game and didn’t report any discomfort. Cashner, on the DL since mid-May with a sore right elbow, said he’s adjusted the grip on his slider to take pressure off his elbow. Manager Bud Black on Cashner’s progress: “That was a good step forward.” … Robbie Erlin hasn’t been cleared to resume throwing. He’s on the DL with a sore left elbow. … LHP Eric Stults was placed on bereavement leave after the death of his grandmother.

Rockies

3B Michael Cuddyer made his second straight start at the position last week. He hadn’t played the hot corner since 2010 with Minnesota. “I can’t believe I’ve got to do this, just so a 25-year-old (Corey Dickerson) can DH,” Cuddyer joked. … SS Troy Tulowitzki 15th homer of the season was a solo shot in the ninth.
