Braves closer Arodys Vizcaino wasn’t available for the team’s recent series against the Chicago White Sox and the reason was due to a minor infection on his right elbow.

On Friday, Braves interim manager Brian Snitker revealed that Vizcaino was dealing with a topical infection. He said the infection bothered him each time he would attempt to throw off the mound. So, the team decided to hold him out for a couple of days before the All-Star break.

“It got into his bursa or something,” Snitker said. “He was eligible on Sunday if (needed him). We tried to stay away from (using) him. He threw a side the last day (before break).”

Snitker also iterated that Vizcaino is okay and is eligible to be used in Friday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.

Vizcaino has a 2.75 ERA in 38 relief appearances. He has 10 saves and 47 strikeouts on the year.

In Friday’s game, Vizcaino made an appearence in the ninth inning. He faced one batter before exiting the game with an apparent injury to his side.

He headed straight to the locker room with the Braves medical staff.
