B.J. Upton returned to the Braves lineup Wednesday, as he predicted after having to leave Tuesday night’s game with forearm muscle spasms. Upton has had the problem before but never had it forced him to leave a game.

Jordan Schafer is still bothered by fluid buildup near his Achilles, after fouling a ball off his right ankle last Wednesday in Kansas City. He limped up the line beating out an infield hit in a pinch-hit at-bat Tuesday but said he expected he could pinch hit again.

“I’m sore, but it’s getting better - just slowly,” Schafer said. “It’s just taking a little longer than I’d like but I can walk pretty normal now. I can jog decent, just can’t run.”

Brandon Beachy threw a 10-minute bullpen session Wednesday, his first extended side work since he starting throwing again after his setback with elbow inflammation. His elbow continues to respond well, though he’s not yet on a timetable for a minor league rehabilitation assignment which would preclude his return from Tommy John surgery.

“The plan right now is to see how I feel tomorrow and that’s it,” Beachy said. “I’ve felt good since I started throwing again. I feel like it’s cleared up in there.”
