University of Georgia junior shortstop Nelson Ward, of Lassiter High and Marietta, was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 12th round of Saturday’s major league amateur baseball draft.

And then the Mariners took junior left-handed pitcher Jarrett Brown of Conyers in round 12. Also, UGA third baseman Hunter Cole (Giants, 26th) of Moore, S.C., was drafted.

Two from Perimeter chosen: Dustin Beggs of Centennial High (Cardinals, 17th) was one of two Georgia Perimeter players drafted, along with J.T. Phillips of Columbus (Rangers, 18th), also a former UGA player.

Georgia Gwinnett selections: A catcher and two pitchers were selected from Georgia Gwinnett. Catcher John Fidanza (D-backs) and Zeke McGranahan (Orioles) were taken back-to-back in the 23rd round, and Tyler Carpenter (Angels, 25th) also was chosen. Carpenter went to Milton High.
