Two Braves pitchers file for salary arbitration

Braves pitchers Arodys Vizcaino and Chris Withrow were among the 156 major leaguers to file for salary arbitration on Tuesday. Both players are arbitration eligible for the first time.
Vizcaino worked his way into the Braves’ closer role after the injury to Jason Grilli and the trade of Jim Johnson to the Dodgers. After serving an 80-game suspension for failing a drug test, the hard-throwing right-hander finished the year with nine saves in 10 opportunities, striking out 37 batters and walking 13 in 33 2/3 innings with a 1.60 ERA. His salary was $252,000.
Withrow, who was acquired from the Dodgers last May, sat out the season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He made $522,500 last season.
Though teams and players may continue to negotiate before their cases are heard, sides exchange salary figures by Friday. Hearings are scheduled Feb. 1-21.
