How the winning run scored: With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Norfolk's Russ Canzler's double to left drove home Numan Romero to give the visiting Tides a 3-0 lead over Gwinnett. The G-Braves added runs in the seventh and ninth and had a runner on first in the ninth when Jordan Parraz grounded out to end the game.
At the plate: Ernesto Mejia drove in both of the G-Braves' runs. His double in the seventh drove home Jose Constanza, and his single in the ninth scored Tyler Pastornicky. Both hits came with two outs. Constanza also had two hits. Pastornicky extended his hitting streak to nine games with a double in the ninth.
On the mound: G-Braves starter David Hale (1-1) gave up three runs, all unearned, in 6 2/3 innings. He allowed eight hits and walked two, and he struck out two.
Up next for Gwinnett: The G-Braves (6-8) and Tides (8-6) conclude their four-game series at 6:05 p.m. Thursday at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. Right-hander Tim Corcoran (1-0, 3.00) is scheduled to start for Gwinnett.
