The Braves were so popular in 1982 that they had to have security guard home plate.

On April 20, 1982, the Braves beat the Reds for their 12th consecutive win to start the season, setting a major-league record.

The win took place at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium and as rabid fans celebrated on the field, a team official stood over home plate to make sure it wasn't pulled up to be a souvenir.

Chris Chambliss and Rafael Ramirez hit home runs for the Braves in the 4-2 victory. Steve Bedrosian got the win and Gene Garber earned a save.

The Joe Torre-managed Braves won the NL West and went 89-73 that season but lost to the Cardinals in the championship series.
