On May 4, 1970, Braves outfielder Rico Carty set an Atlanta record by recording a hit in his 23rd consecutive game. Carty had a third-inning single in a 5-3 win over the Pirates.

His streak would eventually reach 31 games, standing as an Atlanta record until Dan Uggla passed it with a 33-game streak in 2011.

Tommy Holmes holds the franchise record with a 37-game hitting streak as a member of the Boston Braves in 1945.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Carty, nicknamed 'Beeg Boy', won the National League batting title that season with a remarkable .366 average. He also had 25 home runs and 101 RBIs.
