Wednesday’s 13-1 loss to the Cardinals in the deciding game of the NL Division Series added to the Braves’ 18-year pile of ugly postseason numbers:
>> The Braves have lost 10 consecutive playoff rounds and have lost the deciding game on their home field in eight of them. They have matched an ignominious record long held by the Chicago Cubs for the most consecutive postseason rounds lost by a franchise in MLB history.
The Cubs lost 10 postseason series in a row from the 1910 World Series through the 1998 NL Division Series. The Braves have lost 10 postseason rounds in a row from the 2001 NL Championship Series through the 2019 NLDS, a stretch that includes the 2012 NL wild-card game.
>> The Braves have lost all four NLDS Game 5s they have played in -- all four on their home field.
>> The Braves are 13-29 in their past 42 playoff games, dating to the 2001 NLCS. That's a .310 winning percentage.
>> The 10 runs the Braves allowed in the first inning Wednesday were the most ever in the first inning of an MLB postseason game and equaled the most ever in any inning of a postseason game.
>> Here's a chart recapping the Braves' past 10 playoff rounds, a painful series-losing streak that they will have to wait at least another year – a 19th year – to try to end:
