John Smoltz, the only Braves player to be a part of their 14-year postseason run, will enter baseball’s Hall of Fame as a Brave.
The Baseball Hall of Fame announced Thursday the logos that will appear on the caps of the plaques for 2015 electees Smoltz, Craig Biggio and Pedro Martinez.
The Hall announced Jan. 16 that Randy Johnson’s plaque would feature the Arizona Diamondbacks logo.
Biggio’s plaque, celebrating a player who spent his entire 20-year big league career with Houston, will feature an Astros logo.
Martinez’s plaque, honoring the pitcher who won two of his three Cy Young Awards with Boston and helped the Red Sox win their first World Series in 86 years in 2004, will feature a Red Sox logo.
“I cannot be any prouder to take Red Sox Nation to the Hall of Fame with the logo on my plaque,” Martinez said in a statement. “I am extremely proud to represent Boston and all of New England with my Hall of Fame career. I’m grateful to all of the teams for which I played, and especially fans, for making this amazing honor come true.”
Smoltz, the only pitcher in major league history with 200 wins and 150 saves, played the final year of his 21-year career with the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals.
The Hall of Fame plaque details an individual’s baseball accomplishments in approximately 90 words, while listing each team on which an individual played.
Longtime Braves pitcher Greg Maddux was inducted into the Hall of Fame last year with no team logo on his plaque. Maddux served the majority of his career with the Braves and Chicago Cubs.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2015 will be formally inducted July 26 into Cooperstown.
