Shortstop Andrelton Simmons was scratched from Thursday’s lineup against the Mets with a jammed right wrist, which he injured trying to get out of the way of the homeplate umpire after a play at the plate the night before.
Simmons threw and took batting practice Thursday, hopeful that he could play in the game but was scratched when the wrist gave him problems swinging.
Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Simmons got treatment throughout the day Thursday and expects to get him back some time during the Nationals series.
“Hopefully (we’ll) get him back during the weekend, if not tomorrow,” Gonzalez said after the game Thursday.
Simmons landed awkwardly as he was tagged out on a play at the plate in the sixth ininng Wednesday night but stayed in the game for the rest of the night. Simmons was replaced in the lineup Thursday by Ramiro Pena, who got his first start of the season at shortstop. Pena went 1-for-4.
