NEXT: AT PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
Thursday
Time: 7:05 p.m.
TV: SPSO
Probable starting pitchers: Braves RH Shelby Miller (5-7, 2.27 ERA) vs. RH Aaron Harang (4-11, 4.08)
Comment: Miller's winless streak is reaching epic proportions, as he's only two starts away from matching Kenshin Kawakami's franchise-record 14 in a row in 2010. The difference is Miller is winless now in 12, with a 2.96 ERA over that span. (Kawakami's ERA was 4.78 during his streak.) Last time Miller faced the Phillies, on July 5, he pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings and took a no-decision in a 4-0 loss. Six times the Braves have scored one or no runs in games he started over the streak. Harang (foot) is returning from the disabled list to face his former team for his first start since July 1.
Friday
Time: 7:05 p.m.
TV: FSSO
Probable starting pitchers: Braves RH Matt Wisler (5-1, 3.43) vs. LH Cole Hamels (6-7, 3.64)
Comment: Wisler is 4-0 with a 3.30 ERA over his past five starts. He got the better of Michael Wacha in his last start — a 3-2 victory in St. Louis. He's scheduled to face Hamels six days after Hamels threw a no-hitter against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Whether Hamels is on the Phillies' roster as of Friday remains to be seen. He's one of the hot topics in baseball leading to Friday's 4 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline. Hamels pitched seven shutout innings in a 4-0 win against the Braves on July 5.
Saturday
Time: 7:05 p.m.
TV: FSSO
Probable starting pitchers: Braves LH Alex Wood (7-6, 3.54) vs. RH Aaron Nola (1-1, 3.29)
Comment: Wood is coming off his best start of the season, after making a mechanical adjustment to the first-base side of the rubber. Wood pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings against the Orioles on Monday, walking two and striking out seven. Wood had to settle for a no-decision in a 2-1 extra-inning loss. He gave up four runs on 10 hits in six innings July 4 against the Phillies, but won thanks to nine runs of support that day. He'll face Nola, the Phillies' first-round pick last year out of LSU, just two starts into his major league career. Nola gave up just one run in six innings in a 1-0 loss to Tampa in his debut and four earned runs (including two homers) in 7 2/3 innings Sunday at Wrigley Field.
Sunday
Time: 1:35 p.m.
TV: FSSO
Probable starting pitchers: RH Julio Teheran (6-6, 4.71) vs. LH Adam Morgan (2-2, 4.05)
Comment: This trip is one game too long as far as Teheran is concerned. The Braves wrap up the three-city trip starting the pitcher least likely to pitch effectively on the road. Teheran gave up a three-run homer to Chris Davis in the first inning of his start Tuesday in Baltimore on his way to allowing five runs in four innings. He continued the season-long trend that's seen him go 1-5 with a 7.24 ERA in 11 road starts. Morgan has quality starts in three of his first six major league starts since his call-up June 21. One of those was July 3 in Atlanta, when he limited the Braves to two runs in seven innings in a 2-1 loss.
