Right-hander Bartolo Colon was designated for assignment by the Braves on Thursday but his career may not be over.
The 44-year-old right-hander dropped to 2-8 with a loss to the Padres Wednesday night.
But he was an All-Star with the Mets just a year ago and his former team reportedly may have interest in him.
Colon, a 235-game winner in his career, has an 8.14 ERA in 13 starts this season. He pitched for the Mets from 2014 to 2016, going 44-34 with a 3.90 ERA.
Unless Colon is traded or claimed on waivers, the Braves would be responsible for the remainder of his $12.5 million salary. If he is released and signs with the Mets or another team, the new club would be responsible for only a prorated share of the $535,000 minimum.
New York manager Terry Collins would not commit to any interest in signing Colon -- yet.
"He has had an absolutely tremendous career," Collins said. "I'm sure he'll land on his feet someplace. He's a pretty valuable guy to have."
