How the game was won: Cole Gillespie hit a solo homer in the second inning and the Marlins cruised to a 4-0 win over the sputtering Braves and All-Star Shelby Miller, who gave up one run in seven innings and lost yet again to extend his now-historic winless streak to 19 consecutive starts, during which he is 0-11 despite a 3.13 ERA in that span. Martin Prado and Justin Bour had consecutive two-out RBI doubles in the eighth for the Marlins, who pulled to within 1 1/2 games of the third-place Braves in the NL East standings. The Braves had three hits and never got a runner to third base.

Number: 19. Consecutive winless starts for Shelby Miller, an Atlanta Braves single-season record and three starts shy of the overall Atlanta winless streak. His 11 consecutive losses is the most by a Braves pitcher since Many Salvo lost 10 in a row for the Boston Braves in 1941.

What's next: The Braves and Marlins played the second game of a three-game series Tuesday at 7:10 p.m., when a Braves starter to be determined will face Marlins left-hander Justin Nicolino (2-2, 3.65 ERA).
