Kelly Johnson went 0-3 with a strikeout in his first game of a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett. He played left field.

The Braves designated Johnson for assignment on Sunday. He has been on the disabled list since May 14 with a right oblique strain he suffered in Cincinnati.

Johnson had been Atlanta’s home-run leader — six in 81 at-bats — before the injury. He’d started 14 of the 16 games before his injury, and he was batting .273 and slugging .576 in May.

Gwinnett beat the Norfolk Tides 1-0 to improve to 28-28 on the season.

Top Braves prospect Jose Peraza stole his 16th base and knocked in the game’s only run with an RBI single. He’s now batting .282 with two homers and 19 RBIs.
