Teheran starts off season
Julio Teheran, 23, makes his first career opening day start in place of Kris Medlen, who underwent Tommy John surgery two weeks ago. Teheran facess off against Milwaukee starter Yovani Gallardo who went 12-10 with a 4.18 ERA in 2013.
Hot hitters
Braves Freddie Freeman and Jason Heyward slugged above. 300 this spring. More importantly, Dan Uggla and B.J. Uption showed improvements in their batting, hitting above .260 this spring.
Another Milwaukee start
Atlanta is 2-8 at Miller Park in three seasons, including eight-straight losses. Today marks just their second season start against Milwaukee.
The last time they played
This happened:
On Sept. 25, Milwaukee's Carlos Gomez and former Braves catcher Brian McCann had a nose-to-nose confrontation halfway up the third base line after Gomez taunted Paul Maholm circling the bases on a home run.
The last time he played
Ryan Braun is back for a full season after missing most of last year between a thumb injury and a 65-game suspension for PED use.
Extra innings: Milwaukee's new mascot
A stray dog wandered into the Brewers' spring training facility and won the team over. "Hank," a Bichon, has since been adopted by the team as its unofficial mascot ... even to the point he's getting a bobbly head.
