Falcons-Eagles game drew big TV rating in Atlanta, bigger in Philly

The Falcons’ victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” was the big winner among sports events on Atlanta TV over the weekend.

The game posted a 22.3 rating in the Atlanta TV market, meaning 22.3% of households watched. That equals an audience of about 522,000 local homes.

But the game drew its highest TV rating in the Philadelphia market, which posted a 32.6 rating.

As for other local teams on TV over the weekend: Georgia’s win over Arkansas State on Saturday drew an 8.6 rating (about 201,000 homes) in the Atlanta TV market. The Braves’ games against Washington on Saturday and Sunday had 4.1 and 3.5 ratings here (96,000 and 82,000 homes), respectively. Georgia Tech’s loss to The Citadel on Saturday posted a 1.2 rating in Atlanta (28,000 homes). Atlanta United’s loss to Columbus Saturday night drew a 0.6 rating here (14,000 homes).

Nationally, the Falcons-Eagles game scored a 12.2 rating across the 56 metered markets, doubling the night’s No. 2 prime-time show (60 Minutes), according to NBC. The markets with the next highest ratings for the game behind Philadelphia and Atlanta were New Orleans (19.6), Milwaukee (15.4) and Albuquerque (15.3).
