A look at seven prominent Braves pitching prospects shows two things in common: lot of strikeouts and lots of walks.

The high walk totals represent obstacles to the players rising to the big leagues, but the high strikeout totals show why they are exciting prospects.

The pitchers (and inning totals with his current team through Tuesday) are Tyrell Jenkins (57 2/3, Triple-A Gwinnett), Lucas Sims (34 2/3, Gwinnett), Chris Ellis (60, Double-A Mississippi), Sean Newcomb (51, Mississippi), Max Fried (48 1/3, Single-A Rome), Mike Soroka (55, Rome) and Touki Toussaint (38, Rome).

Most of them are at least solid in one, but not so strong in at least one other, but Sorotka has really good number in all three, while Toussaint isn’t terribly impressive in any at this point.

Here is each pitcher’s stats for walks per nine innings, strikeouts per nine and WHIP:

Jenkins – 3.43 BB/9, 6.24 K/9, 1.42

Sims – 5.45 BB/9, 10.13 K/9, 1.62

Ellis – 3.45 BB/9, 6.75 K/9, 1.08

Newcomb – 5.29 BB/9, 9.00 K/9, 1.43

Fried – 5.21 BB/9, 7.45 K/9, 1.47

Soroka – 1.96 BB/9, 8.35 K/9, 1.07

Toussaint – 5.68 BB/9, 5.45 K/9, 1.58
