Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson said he feels fine after a brief scare in Wednesday’s 6-4 win over the Cubs.
In the sixth inning, Swanson attempted to tag Jon Lester at third base. Lester landed awkwardly on Swanson’s surgically repaired wrist. Trainer George Poulis checked on him, and Swanson remained in the game.
Swanson said he didn’t feel any pain in his ensuing two at-bats. He finished the night 1-for-2 with a home run and walk – the homer was another opposite-field shot, an encouraging recurrence in Swanson’s 2019 season.
“He’s fine,” manager Brian Snitker said. “It wasn’t anything big, it just scared him. When you’ve had surgery on something like that, and get it tweaked a bit, I think it startled him a little bit. But he’s fine.”
The Georgia native has been off to a promising start after his 2018 campaign was affected by an early wrist injury. He missed the conclusion of last season and required wrist surgery that forced him into a late start at spring training.
Swanson was playing shortstop and slated eighth in the lineup for Thursday’s series finale.
