Dan Winkler made his first appearance of spring training Wednesday after his debut was delayed by elbow soreness.

The Braves righty pitched a perfect inning in his team’s 8-2 win over the Tigers. His soreness was of little concern and he exited the game without any problems.

“It was good to get him back out there,” manager Brian Snitker said. “Get him through an inning. It was a good starting point for him too. He felt good.”

After overcoming an array of injuries, Winkler pitched his first full season in 2018. He earned a 3.43 ERA over 60-1/3 innings. It was highlighted by a stupendous August in which he didn’t allow a run in 13 appearances.

Winkler struggled in September and was ultimately left off the postseason roster. He's viewed this spring as the first step toward redemption.
