Johan Camargo was to play his third and final game for high Single-A Florida on injury rehab Friday night, but the rehab assignment will continue elsewhere.

Braves manager Brian Snitker said Saturday that Camargo’s rehab assignment would continue with Triple-A Gwinnett after his three games with high-A Florida.

He initially was expected to be activated from the 10-day disabled list and join the Braves in Colorado after only two rehab games at Florida, but with utility man Ryan Flaherty playing so well, the Braves decided there was no need to rush Camargo back from the DL.

Flaherty hit .400 (10-for-25) with four doubles and a .516 OBP that ranked third in the majors before Saturday.

Camargo was 1-for-8 with a single, one walk and three strikeouts in his first two games for Florida. He played third base Thursday, shortstop Friday and was to serve as designated hitter Saturday.

“Then he’s going to move the rehab to Gwinnett,” Snitker said. “He played third, short, now DH, then they travel I think to Durham. Just continue to play. Again, he missed a lot, so it’s getting timing and getting some more at-bats. But he feels good. Health is not an issue. It’s just about wanting to see some pitches, get some more at-bats.”

Camargo was the Braves’ planned opening-day third baseman before he was injured March 13 at spring training. He didn’t play another game until Thursday.

The Braves travel to Washington for a three-game series starting Monday and finish a three-city trip with a series in Chicago at Wrigley Field beginning Friday. Snitker said he didn’t expect them to bring up Camargo before Chicago, if at all on the road trip.

“Play it by ear, see situations, how we’re doing at that point,” Snitker said. “It’d probably be – I don’t see him coming, unless we need it, earlier than Chicago. And I don’t even know if it’ll be Chicago, just may see what shape we’re in and how we’re going.”
