The Yankees placed catcher Brian McCann on the seven-day concussion disabled list Saturday.
McCann, a former Braves catcher from Gwinnett County, was struck in the mask by a foul ball off the bat of Mike Aviles on Friday night, in a 10-6 Yankees victory against Cleveland.
McCann was struck in the third inning and stayed in the game until the sixth, when manager Joe Girardi removed McCann after the catcher described how he was feeling, according to the Yankees’ website.
McCann was diagnosed with a mild concussion, and the decision was made to place him on the DL after he visited a neurologist Saturday, the Yankees site reported.
McCann has batted .238 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs in 103 games in his first season with the Yankees after leaving the Braves via free agency.
