Braves' opponent: Arizona Diamondbacks

Keep an eye on: Paul Goldschmidt. Lurking just behind names like Bryce Harper and Dee Gordon atop the NL batting lists is Goldschmidt. He hit two home runs against the Brewers Saturday night to give him 14 on the season, and was left trailing only Harper, Todd Frazier and Giancarlo Stanton in the National League. His .345 season average trailed only Gordon (.374) in the NL.

Who's hot: The Diamondbacks had homered in eight straight games, entering Sunday's series finale in Milwaukee, including four from Goldschmidt, who was hitting .458 (11-for-24) over his previous seven games entering Sunday. The Diamondbacks have won four of their past five games against the Braves at Chase Field.

Who's not: Second baseman Aaron Hill was just 3-for-28 (.107) over his previous 11 games entering Sunday.

Braves connection: Nick Ahmed, a former Braves second round pick in the 2011 draft, was traded to the Diamondbacks in the six-player deal that brought Justin Upton to Atlanta. Ahmed is now in his first full season as the D-backs' shortstop. He homered Friday night for the go-ahead run in a 7-5 win over Milwaukee to give him three home runs in seven games. Ahmed hit just .130 in his first 27 games this season and went homerless in his first 35 games.

In the news: Former Brave Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who was released by the Marlins earlier this month, signed a minor league deal with Arizona on May 8. He was called up to the big leagues after Diamondbacks catcher Tuffy Gosewisch tore his ACL Wednesday night. Another former Braves backstop, Gerald Laird, 35, signed with Arizona over the winter, was only able to play one game before back spasms forced him out. He is on the 60-day DL following back surgery.
