Braves shortstop Swanson’s return may be delayed

James Dansby Swanson was born Feb. 11, 1994 in Kennesaw, Georgia. Swanson played college baseball at Vanderbilt. He was the first player taken in the 2015 MLB draft, by Arizona. The Braves acquired Swanson from the Diamondbacks on Dec. 9, 2015, in the Shelby Miller trade. The Braves also acquired Ender Inciarte. Dansby Swanson is eligible to come off the 10-day injured list Saturday, but Braves manager Brian Snitker suggested Friday that the shortstop’s return to action may be delayed until next week.

Swanson is on the IL with an injured right heel.

“He ran (Friday), still feels it a little bit, so it’s not as good as I had hoped for (Saturday) or the weekend,” Snitker said. “We’re not going to push it. So it’ll be kind of a day-to-day thing.”

Johan Camargo continues to play shortstop in Swanson’s absence.
