On Teheran and whether anything wrong physically

“Everything’s fine physically, some balls just came back over the plate on him. Just one of those starts. The young man is bound to have a bad one. You go out there 30, 35 times, you’re going to have a bad one. Today was one of his bad ones. So, got him out of there fairly early, and he can rest up for his next one. Maybe catch up again.”

On Granderson doing damage to Braves

“Yes, he has. I think over the last month-and-a-half, his bat is pretty good. He’s got us in the last two series for four home runs, if I’m not mistaken. He’s swinging the bat.”

On Mets rookie pitcher deGrom

“We had him on the ropes a couple of times early, and I think if you score runs early maybe it’s a little different game. And we didn’t. Young pitcher, you let them wiggle out and they get more and more confidence. His stuff is plenty good. His fastball’s got some depth to it. He lived in the bottom of the strike zone a couple of times with some good fastballs. Breaking ball’s good. He’s got a good arm.”

On striking out consecutively after leadoff singles in both first and second innings

“We had men on third a couple of times and didn’t get productive outs; we got punch-outs. When we were rolling (nine-game winning streak) that’s where we got a run in, we didn’t fail. Like I’ve said, it’s easier said than done. Guys want to put the ball in play, but a guy throwing 94, 95 miles an hour can punch you out.”

**JULIO TEHERAN

You look at this as just one of those (bad) nights?

“Yeah, just one of those nights that everybody has. Today was mine. But I feel good. I feel strong. I feel like everything I threw they were just swinging. When you have those kinds of games you’ve just got to battle as far as you can, and that’s what I did today.”

Maybe a little too amped up, after being named to All-Star team and having your mother here at game?

“Well, I took this game like the rest of them I had before. I didn’t try to put pressure on myself, and my mom has been at one of my games before. I think that wasn’t anything that affected me.”

On all of his bad starts coming on the road this year

“I don’t know what to say. Just one of those games. I don’t know why it happens always on the road like this. Sometimes at home I just feel different because of fans and that kind of stuff. I don’t know.”

On the three-run second inning, how things snowballed

“I was trying to make a pitch, tried to go up on Murphy and he swung and got a double. I don’t think that was in the (strike) zone, but he just was swinging.”

At what point did you get a feeling tonight might not be normal for you?

“I don’t know, the second inning. I mean, first inning I knew I wasn’t … I feel good, I feel my (regular) stuff, my curveball and all my pitches. But I feel like they were swinging at everything. When you have a game like that you’ve just got to battle, and that’s what I tried. Just 3 1/3 innings.”

“They were just swinging at everything I was throwing in the zone. I was throwing some pitches that were out of the zone and they still hit them.”

**B.J. UPTON

On deGrom (11 K’s in 7 scoreless innings)

“He’s got a good two-seamer, a good cutter, a good slider. He’s got four pitches that are pretty good, and you add the velocity to that, he can be pretty tough definitely if he’s hitting spots.”

On Teheran falling behind early

“He’s been great for us all year. They took some good pitches and hit strikes, and they can swing the bats. You don’t see that much from Julio, but today was just one of those days.”

On team getting 13 hits, but only one run until ninth inning

“I looked up in the ninth inning and we had 12 hits and one run. I guess we caught one of those fluke games. Didn’t really get many guys in scoring position, and we hit some balls hard with some guys in scoring position and just didn’t get the results we wanted. All in all we swung the bats well, just didn’t get any runs.”
