**FREDI GONZALEZ

On Julio Teheran wiggling out of trouble

“He made some nice pitches. He had the bases loaded (in the fourth and sixth). Justin made a hell of a diving play, selling out and making that catch. And then in his last inning (Teheran) did a nice job. Roger went out there and kind of gave him a little breather, and he made some nice pitches and got out of that jam. He did a nice job.’

“I thought Lincecum did a nice job wiggling out of some trouble, too. We had some runners on there to put up a crooked number, and we never did. I thought the play of the game was the hustle by Pena (on single with one out in sixth, goes to third on left fielder Andres Torres’ error). Torres misplays that ball and he hustles all the way to get to third base, and we were able to execute a squeeze with Schafer, and get us an extra run.

“Bullpen did a nice job with Avi and Walden, and then Kimbrel at the end.”

On Schafer getting a bat on that low pitch to bunt it

“He’s the right guy. He can do it. You feel comfortable that you can squeeze there and he’ll at least foul it off.”

On Freeman nearly having a four-hit game

“He’s swinging it pretty good. And going into the game he didn’t have very good numbers against Lincecum (0-for-11 before today). But he’s swinging it pretty good. Got us a run early in the game. We hit the ball hard all night and only got three got runs. B.J. hits the ball, and a couple of other guys hit the ball hard right at people. Those are good signs.”

On Teheran working out of jams

“Maturation. He’s a guy who, I don’t know, 12 starts ago, it might have blown up on him. And here’s a guy who can compose himself now, he’s been through those situations.”

On whether there’s anything official about Tuesday’s other starter

“We’re going to go with Woody (Alex Wood) in first game of that doubleheader. Back him up with the bullpen. We get that 26th man come up. We’ll probably announce that tomorrow or the next day. It’ll be a pitcher.”

Can Wood go five innings?

“I think so. We’ll take it an inning at a time but he’s a guy that throws the ball over the plate. It hasn’t been that long since his last start. I think it’s been right at three weeks. We’ll play it by ear. I don’t want to put a pitch count on it. I don’t want to put an inning count on it. Whatever he gives us, he gives us and then see what we’ve got here.”

On Wood not backing down from any situation yet

“Yeah, short of closing a game. We’ve put him in situations, and I think he’ll be fine.”

**JULIO TEHERAN

On bouncing back after loss at San Diego

“I know I wasn’t at my best my last start. I was trying to get back on track and keep doing what I’ve been doing my last 10 starts.”

On getting into, and out of, bases-loaded jams

“I was getting a little bit out of control. I was sweating a lot, that made me get out of control. But I was taking deep breaths and trying to control myself and make a good pitch, pitch-by-pitch.”

On Justin Upton’s catch

“I thought it was going to be trouble, and when I saw him (dive) and everybody clapped, I was like, ‘Oh, he made it.’ Very excited.”

On ovation he received when he left game

“That’s the biggest thing I’ve been feeling, every time I go out there and they take me out. I feel the support from the fans.”

**JUSTIN UPTON

On being aggressive to make diving catch with bases loaded, two out

“It had a little arc to it, so it was pretty safe ball to go after. It’s two outs and bases loaded, you want to make that out.”

On Teheran and bullpen

“Julio went out and shut them down like we hoped he would, and we were able to manufacture some runs and push a few across, string together some hits. It’s always nice when he goes out and throws like that. It takes some pressure offof us.”

On Lincecum

“He pitched well, too. He only gave up a couple of runs to us. We felt like we swung the bats pretty good.”

On winning the series after losing first game and trailing entering ninth Saturday

“We picked ourselves up (Saturday) and battled back for a win. That gave us a little bit of momentum going into today. We swung the bats pretty well and Julio pitched well.”

More on his diving catch

“I was in a full sprint, so I was hoping I could get there.”

**JORDAN SCHAFER

On bunting a lot pitch for successful squeeze

“Yeah, that was kind of rough (to get to).”

On value of his bunting this season

“It helps out. It’s something I never really good advantage of in the past. I was always decent at it, but I worked on in a bunch the last couple of years and it’s something I got a lot better at. It’s something I feel really confident doing now, and obviously, I mean if I don’t feel good one day and I’m playing and getting four or five ABs, there’s no reason I shouldn’t try to bunt instead of just taking an 0-for. It’s a way to get on base, a way to get a hit. It’s something I should use.”

What are you looking for on the squeeze bunt

“I’m hoping he throws a damn strike, something that’s an easy pitch to bunt.”

What were you thinking when he threw that pitch?

“My first though? ‘Oh, (expletive).’ I mean, it was coming and I know I’ve got to try to bunt it. But if I miss it….”
