**TIM HUDSON

On the Giants’ six-run fourth inning

“It was a nightmare inning, obviously. I didn’t make very good pitches to get the inning going, and then it seemed like when I needed a break here or there, some balls found some holes, they hit some balls that were tough plays, and we just had a hard time stopping the bleeding. A break didn’t go our way, that’s for sure.”

On dueling through three innings with Cain

“I felt good. It was one of those games where that one inning they got a couple of pitches to hit, got me in a jam. And then a couple of breaks go their way, and they got a couple of other pitches to hit, and that kind of got me out of the game. It was just one of those nights where one inning cost us the game.”

“It was just like, what else can you do. I felt like I made some pitches to get out of the inning, they just had some breaks go their way. They just happened to be all in a row. That happens sometimes throughout the game, but when it happens in an inning where you didn’t make some pitches and got in a jam, then all of a sudden they all happen within a span of three or four hitters, it really sucks. That’s when the inning can unravel on you, and that’s pretty much what happened.”

“Walk the eight-hole hitter to get to the pitcher, and he fists one in a perfect spot where nobody can make a play. It’s just … what can you say?”

On staying in game, not being taken out earlier

“At any moment I was a pitch or two from getting out of the inning and giving up just two or three runs. Just happened to have some breaks go their way right there in that inning. You know, you’ve got to tip your hat to them. They took advantage of some situations. But at the same time, who knows, next time I pitch against these guys it could go the other way around and we could have that kind of inning against their guys. That’s just how baseball is.”

On McCann homering second night in a row

“He’s looking really good, man. I was just talking to Medlen after I came out of the game. He was talking about how good he looked at the plate. It looks like he’s excited to be back.”

(Hudson smiles slightly, indication of dry humor to come) “He’s got to work on the game that he calls. He was putting down the wrong fingers tonight. (Smiles.) Chalk that up to him being rusty. It definitely wasn’t me.”

** BRIAN McCANN

On the six-run inning against Hudson

“He made his pitches on all three of those hitters. They all got on base, and they hit by Cain found a hole, so… You don’t see Huddy give up six like that in an inning. He’s a groundball pitcher, usually a double play to get out of it. Today they found holes.”

Bounced one over Freeman’s head…

“Well, the one in front of Juan, the pitcher finding a hole, the one that bounces over (Freeman’s) head…. The ball didn’t go our way tonight.”

“Everything found a hole tonight. You just move on.”

On hitting his second homer in as many nights, after four on rehab assignment

“I’ve felt good since spring training. So I’ve carried it on my rehab stints and into the season. Things are good.”

On Matt Cain

“His ball was coming out hot tonight. He’s real deceptive. His 92 (mph) looks 94. That’s why he’s so good.”

**CARLOS TOSCA

Seems like everything that could go wrong in that 4th inning, went wrong

“Yeah, there were some mis-hit balls that either were hit too slow to make a play on, or the high chopper over Freddie’s head. That mixed in with a couple of extra-base hits kind of, it was kind of a rough inning for us.”

That going to happen every once in a while with a contact pitcher, a sinkerballer?

“Yeah, I’ve seen it happen with real good sinkerballers. A ball gets mis-hit and it’s hit so slow that you don’t have a play on it or it gets hit to the hole.”

On McCann’s second homer in as many nights

“Yeah, his swing looks really, really good. He’s very confident up there. Good for us and good for him.”

On Hudson looking good in first three innings

“Yeah, you get two great pitchers out there and they’re throwing up zeroes, and that’s what you’re hoping for to have them duel it out amongst themselves. And all of a sudden it just kind of unraveled for us.”
