After enduring some struggles over the past couple of seasons, Braves prospect and former Brookwood High School star Lucas Sims is off to a strong start at Class AAA Gwinnett, says SB Nation Minor League Baseball writer Wayne Cavadi.

A year ago, Sims had slid from the Braves’ No. 1 prospect in 2013 -- including being named the Braves’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year -- to its No. 10 prospect (He’s now No. 18) and was losing ground to younger, more powerful arms the organization was acquiring through trades and the draft.

So far this year, though, his numbers (2-0, 2.83 ERA, 0.837 WHIP) have hinted at a potential turnaround. Cavadi goes into detail about what Sims is doing well. He saw Sims pitch Wednesday night against a tough Durham Bulls lineup and came away impressed.

Recently, Sims pitched well enough to earn International League Pitcher of the Week honors.
