GAVIN FLOYD

On his outing:

“I came into it with a good game plan with Gattis and I felt like I induced a lot of groundballs, a lot of singles and a lot of guys hitting holes. Looking back you think you can probably execute a couple more pitches better, especially the pinch hitter, making a better pitch to him. I think that was one I’d like to take back. I felt like I was pretty consistent as far as trying to attack like I wanted to.”

On if makes it more frustrating given early run support:

“Of course, nobody wants to give it right back. Ultimately you can’t pay attention to that as a starting pitcher. You’ve got to go out there and make pitches and get these guys out and a team can come back like that at any moment. I felt like I stayed in there and tried to make good pitches and it was just the way the game went.”

On if one of those post Tommy John starts where command wasn’t there:

“No, to the pinch hitter I didn’t execute that pitch and felt like I was pretty good overall making pitches and I felt strong. I felt more comfortable out there than the past couple starts and induced a lot of groundballs, just weren’t at guys.”

On bearing down after home run, meant he was feeling OK other than pitch to pinch hitter:

“I make a couple better pitches and get ahead of the guy it could be a completely different situation. I left the ball up and over the middle of the plate, it came back over the plate, so those are situations you definitely have to bear down and make a pitch.”

EVAN GATTIS

On pitch he hit for three-run first-inning home run:

“A cutter. It was kind of in between a cutter and a slider.

On Gavin Floyd’s outing:

“I think a couple of pitches here and there could have been executed better. Other than that, I think he did a great job minimizing the damage. You still have to tip your cap. They still have to hit it. One pitch was three runs. Other than that, we have a different story.”

On Mariners’ bullpen allowing two hits over final six innings:

“They are good. They have good secondary pitches to go with hard fastballs. You throw 93 to 100 with good cutters and sliders and curveballs, it’s pretty good.”

On whether Gavin Floyd had post-Tommy John surgery control problems:

“No. Maybe we could have pitched inside a little better. We got squeezed on a couple here and there. I don’t think it was that as much as they hit the ball.”

FREDI GONZALEZ

On Dustin Ackley’s two out infield hit prior to John Buck game-winning two-run homer:

“You’ve got that and the (Chris Johnson) error early in the game. That cost us four runs right there. We let them hang around. They came back and got some big hits. You have to give them a little credit. I think it we get Gavin (Floyd) out of one of those innings, with a clean inning, maybe it’s a little different story. We swung the bats, five runs early. We just let them hang around and stay in the game. And they beat us.”

On Gavin Floyd’s post-Tommy John surgery start where command is not there:

“I don’t know. That is the first I even thought about it. I think when you make 33, 34 starts, you are going to have a bad one. Tonight was one of those nights.”

On Mariners’ bullpen:

“It’s a pretty good bullpen. We had some opportunities. We had second and third and (Andrelton) Simmons grounded into a double play (in the fifth inning). If we got a run there, it might have been different. We just didn’t get anything going. (Luis Avilan) did a nice job in the situation he came in, he kept us in the game right there. We have a quick turnaround. We’ll come back and get them tomorrow.”

On Tommy La Stella’s defense:

“He made a couple nice plays. He really made a couple nice plays on balls to his left. That’s his strength. He made a couple balls that were difficult look pretty easy.”

On Gavin Floyd after giving up three-run home run in fourth inning:

“They tied the ball game up and he had a couple good innings. In the sixth he got himself in a little trouble and (Avilan) did a nice job covering that up. “

On bottom of Mariners’ lineup getting to Floyd:

“It got him. It got him. But he is a pro. Give him a couple days and run him back out.”
