The Atlanta Braves, in conjunction with Make-A-Wish Georgia, thrilled one young fan with a baseball filled day.
In 2014, Connor was diagnosed with Wilms’ Tumor, a rare form of kidney cancer that was discovered when the tumor exploded as he was playing baseball. Connor had his kidney removed and underwent radiation treatment, followed by six months of chemotherapy.
This month marks one year of Connor being cancer free.
Last year, Connor missed his school's field day because he was undergoing chemo treatment. This year, the 9-year-old's day was very different.
Connor's day at Pickett's Mill Elementary School in Acworth began with a surprise video from Braves infielder Gordon Beckham inviting him to Thursday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Turner Field. Braves' mascot Homer and the Tomahawk Team led field day activities, before Connor and his classmates headed to Turner Field.
At Turner Field, Connor was taken on a tour of the clubhouse by Beckham (see video, above), he visited the Braves bullpen with center fielder Mallex Smith and met other Braves players, as well as manager Fredi Gonzalez. He also participated in several in-game activities.
