Updates on former Braves players around baseball:

Justin Upton, OF

San Diego Padres

He robbed Andrew McCutchen of a two-run home run in the Padres’ 3-2 loss to the Pirates on July 7. According to FanGraphs, he has eight defensive runs saved this season. That’s the most of any left fielder and fifth-most among National League outfielders. His six outfield assists are tied for second among NL left fielders. He’ll appear in his third All-Star game July 14.

Melvin Upton Jr., OF

San Diego Padres

He has appeared in seven games in July, hitting .211 with a double, an RBI and two stolen bases. The Padres are 1-6 in those games. He has stolen five bases this year and hadn’t been caught stealing until July 2.

Craig Kimbrel, P

San Diego Padres

He has appeared in five games since June 17, during which time the Padres have gone 7-12. Those five appearances are all successful save attempts with no runs allowed and six strikeouts. His 4.50 ERA at the beginning of June has shrunk to 3.19.

Alberto Callaspo, INF

Los Angeles Dodgers

He is hitting .286 with four doubles, four RBIs and five runs scored since getting traded to Los Angeles on May 27. He’s appeared in 31 games with 13 starts. He’s hitting .182 with two RBIs in July (five games). His career average of 11.02 at-bats per strikeout is the highest among active major leaguers.

Evan Gattis, OF/DH

Houston Astros

Since April 26, he leads the American League with 52 RBIs. In that span he’s hitting .276 with 14 home runs. He’s second on the Astros with 22 multi-hit games and he’s first with 17 multi-RBI games. He’s hitting .313 with two home runs and six RBIs through eight games in July.

Jason Heyward, OF

St. Louis Cardinals

He has hit safely in 17 of his past 21 games with nine multi-hit games in that span. But he was 4-for-17 in St. Louis’ recent road trip. Through 10 games in July, he’s hitting .270 with two RBIs. He’s hitting .321 with four home runs and 16 RBIs since May 27, when his average was .239. He leads the Cardinals with four outfield assists.

Tim Hudson, P

San Francisco Giants

He’s on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain and his return date is unknown at this time. He threw a bullpen session July 7, but there might not be a rotation spot for him when he returns. Matt Cain has pitched well since getting back in the rotation, striking out seven over six shutout innings against the Phillies in his latest start.

Dan Uggla, INF

Washington Nationals

He’s hitting .222 (6-for-27) with one RBI through 18 games in June and July, four of which he started. He has 12 RBIs this season; he had 10 last season. Seven of his 19 hits have been extra-base hits (four doubles, two triples, one home run).
