Braves extend home winning streak at 5

Seven wins in 11 games and a five-game home winning streak might seem like modest achievements for a major league team. But when you’ve been where the Braves have been since early July, those numbers are like beams of light after an extended period of darkness.

Williams Perez limited the Nationals to six hits in six scoreless innings of a 2-0 win on Wednesday night at Turner Field, which gave the Braves their third series win in their past four.

The Braves have won seven of their past 11 games after losing 48 of the previous 63.

Whatever happened to ... Chief Noc-A-Homa

Chief Noc-A-Homa is easily the most famous and perhaps iconic sports mascot in Atlanta history, the concept coming with the team from Milwaukee in 1966. Said Walker who was at the Braves-Nationals game Wednesday night, "I went to the Braves in full uniform and said you got a white guy doing this job. I told them if you want to hire a bartender, you bring in someone who can make drinks. I told the Braves you want a real Noc-A-Homa, you need a real Indian and that was me.''
