LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Wren said Braves CEO Terry McGuirk and president John Schuerholz were involved in planning and approval of contract extensions worth a guaranteed $280.7 million for five players in the past 17 days.

“These were big, big financial commitments by an organization,” he said, “and all those folks had to be involved.”

If options years are exercised, as expected, on the contracts of pitchers Craig Kimbrel and Julio Teheran, the total value of the five deals will be at least $303.7 million. That doesn’t include additional incentives packages for some players including Kimbrel.
