Three pitching prospects put on “K” shows this week in their first starts of the season.
On Thursday, two first-round draft picks were strikeout kings, Lucas Sims (2012 out of Brookwood High) at Double-A Mississippi and Mike Soroka (2015) at Single-A Rome.
Sims struck out nine in five innings against Pensacola. He gave up one hit and one run, and he walked three. Sims threw 83 pitches, 53 for strikes.
Soroka struck out seven in four innings against the Augusta GreenJackets. He allowed four hits and one run, and he walked one. Soroka threw 73 pitches, 51 for strikes.
On Friday, Chris Ellis, who was acquired in the Andrelton Simmons trade, struck out eight in six innings against Pensacola. He allowed four hits and no runs and didn’t walk a batter. He threw 85 pitches, 65 for strikes.
