Former Braves and University of Georgia pitcher Alex Wood underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow and will be sidelined for about eight weeks.
Wood, currently with the Dodgers, hasn’t pitched since May 30. He’s on the 60-day disabled list after an initial MRI found an elbow impingement.
Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts said Wood had the operation to clean out some loose bodies in his elbow.
The 25-year-old is 1-4 with a 3.99 ERA in 10 starts this season. He’s 27-30 with a 3.38 ERA in 108 major league games with the Braves and Dodgers.
Wood won 11 games for the Braves in 2014.
Atlanta sent Wood to Los Angeles in a 13-player, three-team trade that brought left fielder Hector Olivera to the Braves. Olivera is currently suspended by major-league baseball after being charged with assault and battery on April 13 and is playing for the Triple-A Gwinnett Braves.
