Brandon Beachy threw his first bullpen session Saturday since his setback with elbow inflammation and he came away pleased with how he felt.

Beachy had felt some discomfort over his final few minor league rehabilitation outings before the Braves shut him down on the verge of his return from Tommy John surgery two weeks ago. He had some fluid buildup that has subsided.

“I couldn’t extend my arm, but that’s gone,” Beachy said. “That feels good. I threw normally without that restriction. Felt good.”

Beachy threw a light bullpen session and will see how his elbow responds before determining the next step. He would need a couple of bullpen sessions before he would go back out on a minor league rehabilitation assignment. But the Braves are going to take their time with this.

“There’s no plan,” Beachy said. “If I bounce back good then they’ll decide what to do. If I don’t then we’ll go from there. It’s not like before, unfortunately, where it’s scripted. Now it’s all on feel.”
