Overshadowed by Triple-A Gwinnett having a seven-inning no-hitter thrown against them Friday was a good rehab start for Braves veteran Anibal Sanchez, who could be brought off the disabled list to start Tuesday against the Mets.
Sanchez allowed one hit and one walk and had four strikeouts in three scoreless innings for Gwinnett in its 7-0, rain-shortened loss to Columbus, whose Shane Bieber held the Stripers hitless.
For Sanchez it was quite a turnaround from his first rehab start for Gwinnett four days earlier, when he gave up eight hits including two homers, eight earned runs and three walks in 3-2/3 innings against Durham.
Braves manager Brian Snitker said Sanchez likely would start Tuesday in the third game of a four-game series against the Mets at SunTrust Park, a series that begins with a doubleheader Monday that includes a makeup of a rainout.
Sanchez, 34, has been on the disabled list since injuring his right hamstring while running sprints in the outfield during a pregame workout April 18, a day before he was scheduled to start.
The right-hander was impressive before the injury, going 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in three games, including two starts. He last pitched in a major league game April 13, when Sanchez limited the Cubs to three hits and one walk with six strikeouts in six scoreless innings.
